THE HEALING POWER OF A GOOD FACIAL

As someone who has lived most of my life chronically stuck in my thoughts and prone to seek stability through over-analyzing everything I possibly can, I serendipitously was welcomed into a facial training series as the model under a naturopathic esthetician. As I listened for weeks and weeks of facial training I also noticed that it was soothing something in me that I deeply craved.. a loving, careful connection that grounded me into my body in a new way. Although laying on the table and allowing someone to look at my bare skin under a magnifying lamp felt extremely vulnerable I felt like I was being taken care of and I didn’t have to figure out what was wrong with my skin all on my own. As months went on my skin started to calm down and my nervous system started feeling more stable than I ever thought that it could feel.

As the trainings started getting embedded into my brain I wanted to try it for myself. Somehow it all clicked more effortlessly than anything I’ve ever tried to do and I thought ok..I think this is for me.

As the years have gone by I fell in love with being able to give that experience to other people who lay on the table like I did. As helpful as it is to be able to diagnose someone’s skin condition correctly and give them practical guidance on products and treatments, I want to give each person a chance to take an hour of their life and let go of everything they are worrying about and receive a treatment that makes them feel taken care of and safely grounded back into their body. That may just be the simple cure to whatever skin condition you are dealing with. Many times it is just a matter of giving your body a chance to remember what it feels like to be able to let go and trust you are in good hands.

I feel most of us are so disconnected to the healing power of physical touch. The amount of time in our day that we spend holding on to our phones and not another living being is something so normal we don’t even take note of it anymore. It’s way too easy to google answers and leaves no need to seek solutions through connective experiences. Both are helpful, and balance is needed. We can’t have one without the other and sometimes the ones that take more time, effort, and vulnerability lead to more than you could have expected.
